Using the Tools and Methods of Scientists

Our first graders are learning how to properly use scientific tools and materials, including microscopes. In a recent lab, the boys practiced the ABC's (accurate, big, colorful) of scientific drawing, too. After closely looking at a variety of common objects, such as roots, fruit flies, feathers and earthworms through the lens, they sketched what they had observed. Throughout the year, our young scientists will practice the scientific method and learn a variety of skills necessary to answer questions they discuss during their scientific investigations.
