The Turkey Run Tradition

School News
11/20/2025

The second grade turkey run tradition dates to 1967, when seventh and eight graders used to run around the Central Park Reservoir. The runner with the fastest time would receive a frozen turkey to donate to the Annual Turkey Drive. This boy was also awarded a chocolate turkey in recognition for his generous donation. As the Turkey Run has transitioned to a second-grade tradition, each participant now receives a chocolate turkey in recognition for their hard work in preparing for and running the Turkey Run. Additionally, two medals are awarded at the event. The boy who runs the fastest overall time, and the boy whose Turkey Run time reflects the most improvement from his previous personal best time will be awarded medals for their efforts. In preparation for the 600-meter race, boys participate in weekly conditioning exercises.

Not only is this a great run to watch, it is also a wonderful opportunity to see what a great time the boys have in sports!
