Our longtime second grade partnership with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is in full swing. For the entire fall semester, the boys' 90-minute art classes occur down the block at the Guggenheim, where they engage with a museum educator in studying the iconic architecture of the building as well as modern masterpieces from the permanent collection.

During introductory sessions, the boys learned how Frank Lloyd Wright was inspired by nature, in particular by sea shells, which informed the museum's conical design. They learn the vocabulary of art, and make close observations of the works they see. They then take to the museum's art studios, where they create original works of art inspired by what they've seen. Co-taught by the boys' art teachers and the museum educator, this course of study provides an immersive experience for the boys that cultivates a habit of close looking and inquiry.
