Exploring the Neighborhood in Kindergarten
Kindergartners are out and about exploring their Saint David's neighborhood as part of their spring social studies unit of study. During a morning visit to a local fire station, they learned what they should do in the event of a fire, how firefighters respond to fires, and lots of interesting facts: firefighter's equipment weighs 75 to 125 pounds, and their truck comes in at 55,000 pounds! Highlights for the boys included the opportunity to sit in a fire engine and extinguish a pretend fire.
The class will take several trips in the upcoming weeks to nearby museums, stores, and parks, learning the history of theses spaces and interacting with the people who run them.
