Cultural Learning through Global Artist Exchange
At one corner of the room, Omega boys are analyzing shapes they will use for their Calder-inspired mobiles. At another, a boy is sharing a story about his favorite sport - soccer, for a video to be sent to boys and girls in an elementary school in Argentina.
Our interdisciplinary Global Artist Exchange partnership with Level Up Village facilitates meaningful global collaborative learning between Omega art students and their peers from our partner school in Argentina. Through video exchanges over seven weeks this spring, our boys presented their learning about American sculptor, Alexander Calder, as well as their own artwork, and received similar videos from the students in Argentina about Lucila Manchada, an artist native to their country.
In art class, the boys learned about Calder, while also embarking on their own artistic journey to create personal artwork informed by their close looking and inquiry. This week, they exhibited their mobiles and stabiles for their parents at a special art showing.
Through language, art, and technology, the Global Artist Exchange provides our boys and the students of our partner school with rich opportunities to investigate the art and perspectives of other cultures firsthand. The experience fosters empathy, cross-cultural fluency, and a broader sense of creative expression—helping boys see the world, and themselves, in new ways.
