Middle School Science Teacher

Saint David’s School seeks a middle school science teacher for September 1, 2019. Saint David’s is an independent elementary school for boys, located in Manhattan. Founded in the Catholic tradition, the school welcomes everyone.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach science to Grades Five through Eight
  • Collaborate with colleagues, outside institutions, and administrators to develop and/or enhance signature units that showcase students’ thinking and presentation skills
  • Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-based learning and integrate technology
  • Participate fully in grade-level, departmental, and faculty meetings
  • Maintain effective professional communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators through a variety of means, including meetings, conferences, contact notes, and formal academic reports
  • Engage in ongoing professional development

Qualifications and Preferences:

  • Dynamic yet organized teacher who understands boys and prefers teaching middle school students
  • Teaching methods that emphasize active engagement while also fostering the development of essential knowledge
  • BS in science or a related discipline; MS or EdM in Science Education preferred
  • Commitment to professional development and science curriculum development
  • Exceptional communication skills, including polished writing skills
  • Coding experience
  • Commitment to boys’ education and character education
  • Flexibility, collegiality, humor
