Mathematics Curriculum Chair

Saint David’s School seeks a Mathematics Chair for September 1, 2018. Saint David’s is an independent elementary school for boys, located in Manhattan. Founded in the Catholic tradition, the school welcomes everyone.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach mathematics
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators to continue to assess, revise, and enrich the Pre-K – Grade 8 mathematics program
  • Where appropriate, form interdisciplinary connections; integrate technology and inquiry based learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators todevelop signature units that showcase students’
  • thinking and presentation skills
  • Lead math curriculum meetings
  • Serve as a resource to teachers of students who struggle in mathematics and students who excel in mathematics
  • Participate fully in grade-level and faculty meetings
  • Attend chapel and give chapel talks; attend lunch and special student activities such as class plays and concerts
  • Maintain effective professional communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators through a variety of forms, including meetings, conferences, and formal academic reports
  • Engage in ongoing professional development

Qualifications and Preferences:

  • Dynamic, hands-on teacher who emphasizes problem solving while building essential knowledge
  • Commitment to professional development and mathematics curriculum development
  • BS in mathematics or a related discipline; MS or EdM in Mathematics or Mathematics Education
  • Exceptional communication skills, including polished writing skills
  • Facility with a variety of software programs
  • Commitment to boys’ education and character education
  • Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, humor
