Bridget Gallagher Matheson's Sixth Grade math students are studying and applying formulas for calculating distance based on rate and time. In a recent activity, boys brought in pull-back toy cars and calculated the rate (speed) of each car by setting a speed trap (given a specific distance and time to pass through that distance, the speed can be calculated by dividing the distance by the time). The boys then converted the calculated time from feet/second to miles/hour.
