Boys in French class not only learn the language, they learn the culture as well. Once a year they make crepes to celebrate the "Chandeleur." There are different stories about this holiday, including that Pope Gelasius I had crepes given to the pilgrims upon their arrival in Rome. French teacher Gisele Rappaport prepares the crepes, and the boys enjoy them in class with sugar, jam, or chocolate syrup. At the beginning of the year, the boys make passports of all the French speaking countries in the world. Speaking of France--recently, the school enjoyed a France-themed special lunch, featuring French onion soup, boeuf borguignon, and croque-monsieur.
