As a culminating project for their Geometry unit, sixth graders use Geometer's Sketchpad technology to design an original architectural drawing in the style of a local Church. For inspiration, the class visits St. Thomas More to spend time quietly contemplating and sketching the geometry found in the stained glass windows, woodwork, and arches of the church. Students then apply their knowledge of traditional compass constructions and geometric figures to create a design that highlights the geometric elements they have observed.
