Grades Five and Six All-Star Teams
Boys in Grades Five and Six participate in interscholastic competition in the schools all-star system. Boys who exhibit sportsmanship, leadership, and school ability are chosen to represent Saint David’s in matches or games with other schools. For each game a separate all-star team is named (there is no standing, varsity team). This makes it possible for many boys to represent the school during the year and allows for a better game since we do not overwhelm less capable opponents with our best athletes. Instead, we send a team of equal ability, which enables the players to have a good game with a close score, bringing out the best in both teams. For this reason, other schools welcome competition with Saint David’s.
Grades Seven and Eight Varsity Sports
The Seventh and Eighth Grade sports program introduces the boys to varsity sports. For the first time, they compete for positions on the basketball, baseball, and soccer teams. Saint David’s is a member of the Manhattan Private Middle School League, which also consists of Allen Stevenson, Browning, Buckley, Collegiate, Dalton, Saint Bernard’s and Trinity. We compete in baseball, basketball, cross country, lacrosse, and soccer.
While our varsity system plays a key role in the development of our boys, it is only part of our overall program. The boys also participate in our intramural indoor soccer league, softball, fitness, flag football, cross country and track. We feel this gives every boy the opportunity to participate in a sport he truly enjoys.
